The Woman at the Well - monologue
I came across this YouTube video of a modern day monologue version of what the Woman at the well said to Jesus. Absolutely brilliantly conveyed, sure captured my attention and was impressed by the way the message came across. In this story, Jesus crossed a major boundary. The Samaritan woman at the well should have run away as fast as she could. There was a history of friction between Jews and Samaritans going back several centuries. For a Jew to talk to a Samaritan was crossing a boundary. For a man to talk to a woman without her family around was crossing a boundary. For a man to talk to that particular woman at the well was also crossing a boundary. The disciples couldn't believe that that Jesus would even talk to her. This story can be found in John 4:3-30 in the Bible.
The Woman at the Well - a monologue
Jesus crossed all of those boundaries to reach her. She should have run, but she sensed that Jesus was different. Jesus asked her for hospitality, “could I have a drink of water?” In turn, the woman at the well asked Jesus for hospitality. She asked to be accepted for who she really was, not who everyone thought she was. Jesus saw past the five husbands and the man she was living with to see her inner spiritual hunger.
